RCKB Membership.
It is quite challenging trying to be a true Rotarian. Providing Humanitarian services to the community is not an easy job. It is like mind over body situation where the mind is willing but the body is not. What make it tough is that you can not do the job in isolation ie by yourself . It has to be a team effort. This is where the true challenge lies, getting others to join and be committed to the job, as if motivating oneself is not enough.
Many Rotarian got themselves involved not knowing what it actually entailed. For example, the weekly meeting or as we term it fellowship gathering where Rotarian meet to discuss and exchange ideas only takes not more than two hours each time but many Rotarian find it difficult to attend let alone contribute fresh ideas. If one can not manage to attend this meeting regularly then what the hell he or she want to be called a Rotarian.
Next is the small financial commitment toward running of the club. It is each Rotarian responsibility to ensure all the dues are paid regularly as the club itself have to pay certain dues to the parent body. If a club is having cash flow problem, it will never be able to discharge its responsibility to the community.
This problem is not new and it is believed that many clubs are going through the same phase. The key to this issue is that each new Rotarian recruited must be committed to the Rotary cause. The question is can the club find such person in this difficult time.

Rotarian Dr. Shuib didalam kenangan.
Saya berkesempatan melawat arwah sebanyak dua kali. Kali terakhir saya berjumpa, arwah nampak ceria dan telah menasihati saya supaya terus menabur bakti melalui pergerakan Rotary.
Arwah adalah salah seorang charter member RCKB. Beliau sedang mengikuti kursus ijazah undang undang di UiTM melalui kaedah KLK, tahun 3. Arwah telah memberi cadangan supaya RCKB menubuhkan 'community clinic'.
Sama sama kita berdoa semoga roh beliau ditempatkan bersama sama orang yang beriman. Ameen!

RCKBrians as blogger.
We now can exist in another dimension, virtual community. If you are having several email addresses, blogs, communicate online most of the time, having pc, notebook, pda and spend more than 2 hours staring at the screen daily, man! you are already part of this community. What seperate the virtual world from the real is that you have to eat and do those physical things. Some people even go to the extend of getting married on the net, have children and keep pet and garden in the virtual world. They will visit keep in touch with their virtual family on daily basis, taking their pet to the vet in case it is sick. Of course you may not meet the real person unless you choose too.If you happened to pass by some of the cafe you will see some of the inhabitants of the virtual world. They seemed to be lost in their own world. Some time they can be seen smiling to no one in particular. Only their body is there but they are somewhere else. The virtual world follow different set of rule or no rule really. You are free to do so many thing. Yeah fight, quarrel, fall in love, tell lies. It is only when men try to mix this world with the real that trouble start, like when Raja Petra end up in lock up. (he is on bail I heard)
So far only Azlan had accepted my invitation to blog in rckampongbaharu. What happened to the rest I wonder?

Note, PP Din responded by sms saying he is still overseas.
We have two guest who attended our meeting. They were Jamil and Siti. This is an interesting phenomenon. People are interested enough to know what we are doing. This is an opportunity for RCKB membership drive.

Another round of teh tarik at the Lotus after RCKB weekly meeting, Wednesday 23rd April 2008. That the best shot our Bangla waiter can do using my low pek digicam. Fellowship at Lotus was even more interesting than the weekly meeting earlier, the subject being aftermath of the GE12. I cleared early after finishing my kopi tarik, so don't really know if they switched to more gila gila topic.
PE ROSLAN HAD HIS BAPTISM.
Fresh from his PETS 2 training at Seremban the previous week he fired his first salvo as next RCKB President by chairing the first RCKB 08-09 Board of Directors Meeting. First by relating an anecdote about somebody being pushed into a river full with fierce crocodiles and that person survived. And now he is looking around for the pusher with a vengeance in mind. The morale of the story, I did not grasp it because half of the time I was thinking, here come the guy who will take over my story telling function, to make the future meeting more interesting, full with laughter. Something that I had failed to do due to lack of repertoire on clean jokes. he he he
PE ROSLAN was full of ideas. First he emphasized what President Amin could not complete during his term will be carried over to 08-09, then RCKB will do more. And here is the list....
1..Club installation Dinner - 28June2008
2..Official AG visit - 2 weeks prior to DG visit
3.. Official DG visit - 5Dec 2008
4..Club annivesary celebration - 13Nov2008
5..Weekly Meeting - every wednesday
6..Board Meeting - 3rd week of the month
7.. Business and Committee meeting - 1stweek of the month
8.. RCKB mtng with guest speaker - 2nd and 4th week of the month
9..AGM - 8Dec2008
10.Club Assemblies - 4 times a year
11.Guest day - every quarter
12.Family activity - 3 times a year
13.Majlis berbuka puasa - 1st wek of ramadzan
14.Hari raya celebration - shawal month
15.Club fund raising - once a year
16.Promote Foundation Program/EREY/Polio plus - TRF month

18.Vocational Service: Interact/Roteract - tba
19.RYLA - tba
20.Youth Exchange Program - tba

Wow! that is a lot to do PE, in one year. At least you won't have time to look for the guy who pushed you into the river. But that is what we are here for PE. We will help you all the way. The second part, PE mentioned on RCKB goal setting for 08-09. Another long list but I shall write it in the next posting.

At Rotary Club of Kampong Baharu weekly fellowship meeting we normally have a senior or very experience person as the guest speaker but yesterday we had something different. A young speaker, Intan Aliafatin, a RCKB sponsored RYLArian was given the opportunity to share her experience with RCKBrians.
She gave very detail account of her participation at the leadership seminar. She aptly sum it up as an experience of a life time and urged all RCKBrians to consider sending their children and relative to attend future RYLA. Among the hi lite of the seminar was Tun Dr.Mahathir keynote address on Vision 2020 and talk by the first Malaysian astronaut, Dr. Sheikh Marzuki.
President Amin presented her with RYLA certificate and commended on her achievement.

From left: AG William, Pres Amin,Rtn Azalea, Rtn Helmy and DG Joe.
DG Joe delivering his keynote address.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT.
The highest post in any Rotary District is The District Governor post. One of the job that is expected of Distinct Governor is to visit each club in his district at least once during his tenure ship. That is quite an incredible task considering an average district has more than 70 clubs. So it was indeed an auspicious occasion for members of Rotary Club of Kampong Baharu when District Governor Dr.Joseph Rejendran (Joe) visited them on the 12Th of March 2008.DG Joe arrived early for the function accompanied by Assistant Governor Group 5, Dr.William Lau. The venue for the meeting was moved to Maju Restaurant, Maju Junction in order to accommodate the bigger crowd expected. DG Joe gave a rousing speech how to keep Rotary movement relevant to the society. The Rotarymission to eradicate polio on this earth received a boost by US100M contribution from Bill Gates of Microsoft. He challenged all Rotarian to raise another US100M to match his contribution. A challenge that was gladly accepted by Rotarian and will receive major focus in the next few years. In conjunction with the visit RCKB inducted another new Rotarian, Puan Azalea Abdul Wahab, who become RCKB 15th member.
